Welcome to CumChristo's "Study Message Board". It is hoped that this feature will become a useful tool for you. What can you post on the Study Message Board? We all have found our own books, movies, music, places to visit, bible studies, etc., that have served to inform us about or inspire us toward the Word of God.
This Study Message Forum exists so that we may share with other Cursillistas the Study items we have discovered.

Surprised by the Truth, edited by Patrick Madrid, Basilica Press, Irving, TX, 2006. The startling stories of conversions with Biblical and historical evidence. A great read for those interested in deepening their faith through the thorough study done by the eleven converts. And, Saved by the Truth II adds fifteen more stories of conversion. These books will answer all of your questions and satisfy all of your doubts about the faith.

A Catholic magazine publication called "The Word Among Us" is one that I will never be without. It comes with or without daily Mass parts and readings. (I buy it with). Meditations are provided for each day based on one of the readings of the day. It has articles on a faith subject and one focus on a saint each month. I find it quite beneficial to pick up the magazine at lunchtime and spend the first 15 minutes in prayer with the magazine in hand. It truly helps me keep my workday in focus and in the hands of Him who guides my day. More information can be found at www.wau.org

The Bible Study that I just finished at my parish Immaculate Conception, "The Great Adventure A Journey Through the Bible" by Jeff Cavins. It is a 24 week program that gives a foundation of the Bible from Genesis through the Acts of the Apostles. It covers our story from the begining to Pentacost. And my church will have a new session starting in the fall. It will be meeting on Mondays. Feel free to contact me for details if you are interested in joining the fall study. The web site for the series is www.TheBibleTimeline.com. It gives a great understanding of how everything fits together.

I like to pray the liturgical hours in the Daily Prayer of the Catholic Church. One of the hours, the Office of Readings, combines prayer and study beautifully. All of the liturgical hours have psalms to pray, but the Office of Readings has, in addition, for each day, a long scripture passage and a reading from a nonscriptural source related to the scripture for the day. The nonscriptural reading is usually from one of the Fathers of the Church, but it may be from the Documents of Vatican II or other church document. The two substantial readings really give one something to think about.

Here is an excellent website for Christian information helpful for making good voting choices:

This is also a good website for pro-life resourses.

This is a site that has a wonderful prayer guide called Sacred Spaces. It has daily reflections and prayers. It is maintained by some Irish Jesuits.

I've long had an urge to study the Bible and to learn more about Jesus the man. Books on the subjects tend to be too "text-book-like" or too high brow to hold my attention for long. And the Bible... well, many a great reader have failed to get through that one awake. A few months ago, I found two books that have made Bible and scripture study much more interesting - even fun; they are the Idiots Guide to the Bible and the No-Brainer's Guide to Jesus. Once you get past the initial thought that this is somehow "sacrilege", the books provide an interesting take on what was often a dryly-written subject. Both books are available at most book stores.

I have been studying "Illuminated Life--Monastic Wisdom for Seekers of Light" by Joan Chittister. Each chapter (from A to Z) illuminates a spiritual quality we need to cultivate. Every illumination begins with a surprising story from the desert mystics and then segues into a practical application. The introduction has a subtitle of -Being Contemplative in the Midst of Chaos.
It is easy to read. I find it very helpful in getting a sense of what contemplative means especially with the practical applications to life in the 21st century.

For those who wish to develop your contemplative prayer, Kathleen Norris has some interesting insights and musings in her book "Cloister Walk". She also wrote "Amazing Grace".

The online "Daily Bread" keeps me connected to what is real when at work. I get a relevant message, quick access to the related scripture, and a refreshing adjustment to my daily attitude. http://www.gospelcom.net/rbc/odb/odb.shtml

As the first entry of this new CumChristo website feature, I thought it would be appropriate to site the location of the PDF file entitled "Study List Handout" now given out to participants of a Weekend:
